The company was founded in 1981 to provide consultancy services in manufacturing technology, primarily to the marine industries. Its founder, and former managing director, was shipbuilding director of Govan Shipbuilders, Glasgow, UK. Prior to that he had worked in pressure vessels and chemical plant and in the aerospace industries, and, indeed at TWI (1967-1970). He is also a former Member of Council of TWI, and a European Welding Engineer. Due to the directors of Promweld Ltd reaching retirement age they have ceased trading as from 31 July 2002.
