Brief History of Snecma Moteurs

The three core businesses of SNECMA group are propulsion, equipment and services. SNECMA MOTEURS is involved in both space and aeronautic propulsion. With 13840 employees, SNECMA MOTEURS is one of the world's largest aircraft engine manufacturers with over 50 years experience. SNECMA MOTEURS designs, develops, manufactures, and sells engines which power military Dassault Aircraft, and medium and long-range Airbus and Boeing aircraft flying under the colours of more than 250 airlines. By the end of 1998, 9413 CFM56 engines had been delivered. SNECMA MOTEURS represents about 22% of the market share for the engines dedicated to commercial aircraft over 100 seats. Besides, through its SEP Division, SNECMA MOTEURS is the world leader in the field of rocket propulsion. End of 1998, 1125 rocket engines had been ordered.

In technology research, SNECMA collaborates with more than fifty European laboratories, universities and research centres. These research programmes cover a broad spectrum of fields, which means for SNECMA having got a reputation of excellence in the most important engines technologies.

The turnover of the group is 28,5 Billion FRF (4.3 Billion Euro) with 21,7 Billion FRF (3,3 Billion Euro) for SNECMA MOTEURS itself.
